Create your first Workout Route

A Workout Route is a named workout — "Morning Loop", "Lake Trail" — with a starting playlist attached from your Apple Music library. The playlist is the baseline soundtrack; the Music Moments you pin later interrupt it at exactly the right spots. A route needs a playlist before you can run it or pin songs to it.

Before you start: finish setup so Apple Music and location permissions are granted, and make sure you have at least one playlist in your Apple Music library.

Step by step

  1. Tap the + (plus) icon in the tab bar at the bottom of the screen. A form appears, starting with 1. Choose Workout Route. (Note: the Home screen's "No Workout Routes Yet" message is not tappable — the + tab is the way in.)

  2. Tap the dropdown reading Select a workout route... and then Create New Route.

  3. A sheet titled Create New Workout Route opens. Type a name (up to 20 characters) and, if you like, a description (up to 50 characters). The name cannot be empty or just spaces.

  4. Tap Select a playlist... and pick a playlist from your Apple Music library, then tap Select in the top-right. Once chosen, a Shuffle Playlist toggle appears — turn it on if you want the baseline playlist shuffled during workouts.

  5. Tap Create Route. The sheet closes and the new route is selected in the form. The Home tab lists a route once it has at least one Music Moment — after you pin your first one, switch to Home and you'll see the route's card with the playlist name and its moment count, e.g. 1 music moment (4 left) on the free tier.

Good to know

  • Use playlists saved in your library. Pick a playlist you have added to your own Apple Music library rather than a suggested catalog playlist — library playlists stay reliably attached to the route.
  • Free tier limit: the free tier includes 1 Workout Route. Creating a second one requires Premium.
  • Editing later: tap the route's card on Home to open its detail screen, where you can rename it, change the description, swap the playlist, toggle shuffle, or delete the route. Deleting a route permanently deletes all of its Music Moments.
  • Your data stays on the phone. Routes are stored on-device only — they do not sync between devices, and deleting the app deletes them permanently.
